For weeks I have been making doll clothes. The only problem was that I didn’t have an 18 inch doll to put them on! After weeks of looking for a used doll, I bought an 18 inch Our Generation Doll at a local thrift store. Her hair had been cut and the only clothes she wore was a simple shirt. She is still in good condition (I don’t know her name-maybe you can help identify her).
So here are some of the clothes I made for her (The doll and clothes will be my daughter’s birthday present). I’m also beginning to create other doll items to list in my Etsy shop. I should be adding doll clothes to my store very soon.
Let me know what you like about these doll clothes! Do you sew doll clothes? I’d love to see pictures!
Last week I began to feel discouraged and disheartened. Perhaps it’s the time of year; it’s cold and snowy (but here in CO we’re lucky to have sunshine even in winter). Perhaps it’s because I didn’t meet my January goals. Whatever the reason, I felt down. I had no direction and felt like I was back at square one again.
If you’ve read my blog, you may know that I have an Etsy shop. I am in the process of growing and promoting my business. It is not any easy task, mind you. I have great ambitions for my shop. My dream is to one day make a full time income from home (I’m currently at stay at home mom to two children). Once my children are in school full time, I don’t want to answer to a boss or rely on another company to pay me.
In order to get there though, there are many things I need to accomplish. (I won’t bore you with those details). I realized that not meeting my January goals were probably the source of discouragement I felt.
I rely on my faith in Jesus Christ to guide me in everything, including my new business. And He didn’t leave me stranded at being discouraged. I received an email from Donna Partow (author,speaker-I’ll share more about her in another post!). She was holding a teleconference last week and focus of that call was dealing with discouragement! I wasn’t able to listen live but began the replay later. Within minutes, I felt uplifted and not so discouraged. I was encouraged again.
This is Monday. I’ve already created and listed another item (for St. Patrick’s Day!), began another project, and listed my very first custom order item. I’ve realized that launching a business isn’t easy and will have obstacles. But I need to keep pressing in. So I’ll keep moving forward; one step at a time.
Today I’ll leave you with a picture of our snow laden tree in the backyard. Happy Monday from snowy Colorado!
Welcome to Wednesday’s Creations! Each Wednesday I will feature creations from the previous week. Some will be creations for Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/NewCreationSewing) and others will simply be for my household.
Now onto the good stuff: My creations for the previous week!
Blue Gingham Reusable Sandwich Bags; One is “Picnic” size (larger) and the other is a sandwich size. They are both fully lined.
Next, is something I didn’t create at all. I found it lying in my fabric stash and decided to list this cute little growth chart.
Finally, I made this Spider Man drawstring bag. This is made of up-cycled fabric that was washed in hot water and dried on very high heat to get it very clean.
I also made my first attempt at (not so great) quilting on some place-mats I made. These are for my dining room. I’ve decided to try some binding tape around the edges, but I’m not sure how to avoid the puckering of the fabric! Needless to say, quilted place-mats will not be in my Etsy shop for some time. 🙂
And finally, this is a pillow cover with a zipper! I think I’m most impressed with my projects that have a zipper because zippers are a little tricky. I used an old pillow form and gave it a new look with this cover-and it took less than 1/2 yard. This has a permanent spot in my living room.
These are my creations of the past week. I plan to create another tote bag, cushions for my patio swing, and finish up some other sandwich bags I found this week.
Let me know what you think and tell me what projects you’re working on! Can’t wait until next Wednesday’s Creations!
